Members of our Reading OLE team recently visited the Network Rail Electrification Test Centre in Swindon, taking the opportunity to transfer their experiences from screen to site and expanding their knowledge to further enhance their design capabilities.

For a team that spends the majority of project process working in finite technical detail in front of a CAD screen, getting first-hand practical experience is important.

During their day long visit with Network Rail, George, Sonny, Rafael and Justin spent time observing the different Series-1 components in situ, vital understanding how the different elements of the design come together to provide safe and reliable electrification to support our transport infrastructure.

From apprenticeship through to Senior Engineer level, the team could all benefit from the visit within their own professional development.

Talking about their time at the Swindon site, Apprentice George Bicknell commented, ‘it was brilliant to get hands-on with Network Rail – it adds a whole new dimension to the design process when you have something tangible to refer back to.’
