In 2011, Emma Nicholson, our Senior Proposals Manager with the Bids and Proposals team, created the Women in Sustainable Construction and Property LinkedIn group that has developed to over 1,000 members. The group focus on sharing information on environmental issues in construction and property and promoting corporate responsibility, equality and diversity at work. Since its inception, the group has hosted numerous events in Leeds and London, overseen and organised by Emma. These events run with leading industry companies, Institutes and academia such as PwC, Deloitte, Ramboll, AECOM, Lend Lease, UCL, The CIOB and IEMA.
These events have not only brought together women who are passionate about creating change but were set on tackling real issues women face in the work force. Through her work, Emma became a mentor of an Electrical Apprentice Engineer through WISE, which saw her mentee speak at the House of Lords about the importance of sharing clear information about career paths in schools.
Emma’s dedication to the construction and property industry and being a STEM ambassador has led her to being nominated for the STEM Leader Award as part of the Forward Ladies Regional and National awards. This is an award that recognises women in a senior position within the STEM sector and has recognised Emma’s contribution to the field through her introduction of the STEM scheme to the Leeds office at her previous firm.
The Regional Winners will be announced on September 14, and will go forward to a further judging stage. Good luck Emma and congratulations on the nomination!
